ACBS - Columbia Willamette Chapter
Homepage of the Columbia Willamette Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society (ABCS).President's Welcome Message
As President of the Columbia Willamette Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society let me extend a hearty “welcome aboard” on behalf of more than 120 members of our local club.
If there is a single word that characterizes our club it would be diverse. Although geographically we are concentrated in the Portland / Vancouver area, we have members as far away as southern Oregon, northern Washington, and Idaho. The diversity in our craft ranges from world class Best of Show, and ACBS Boat of the Year winners, to simple 16 foot, outboard fishing boats, and everything in between. We have members that have large cruising yachts, and members that have no boats simply because they are looking for a suitable boat, or working on a boat project in their garage. In short, there is no set of characteristics that defines the average member.
While we are diverse in our geography, craft, and boating objectives, we are united in a common love for historical, antique and classic boats. New members joining our organization can expect to find a variety of monthly events that range from major judged boat shows in downtown Portland and Lake Oswego, to technical workshop sessions, to cruises and social events such as our holiday dinner /dance. The Chapter maintains a web site and issues a monthly newsletter The Hull Truth. As part of the national ACBS organization you will receive their quarterly magazine The Rudder, and a copy of their National Directory that is cross indexed by geography, and type of boat, so that you can contact owners of boats similar to yours.
While these benefits are impressive, perhaps the best benefit of joining Columbia Willamette Chapter of the ACBS is the opportunity to network with people of similar interests. Networking can be an invaluable asset when searching for parts, looking for a boat, seeking repair tips, and solving restoration problems. If you elect to join our organization, I can promise that you will find a warm and welcoming group that stresses informality, camaraderie, mutual support, and the serious pursuit of boating fun. We look forward to meeting you, and having you as a member of our organization.
From the helm,
Roger L. Rollins, President
